BIO | Asimina Proedrou | Writer – Director
Asimina is a writer-director based in Athens, Greece. She studied Music, International Economics and Film Directing, while working for the finance department of a large international corporation for fourteen years.
Asimina's short film, RED HULK (2013) won the Best Film Awards at Greece's two most prestigious short film festivals, it was selected for numerous international film festivals, including Clermont-Ferrand, and received seven international awards.
Her debut feature, BEHIND THE HAYSTACKS (2022), was Greece's contender for the 96th Academy Awards, and among the 40 Best fiction films nominated for the European Film Awards. The film won 10 Iris Awards at the 2023 Hellenic Academy Awards, including Best Picture, Best Director and Best Screenwriter, setting a record with 17 nominations-the most in the institution's history. Among other accolades, it won six awards at the Thessaloniki IFF, the Best Debut Feature Awards at the IFF of India (Goa), and was selected for several major international film festivals, including Palm Springs. The film, critically acclaimed, was a big success in Greece, with a theatrical release for over 30 weeks and hundreds of thousands of VOD streams, while it was distributed in over 20 countries.
Asimina is currently developing her feature films, DANCE OF THE GOBLINS and HYSTÉRA, the latter of which has won several development awards at prestigious co-production markets, including Cinelink Sarajevo. She is also working on her first international TV political thriller series, BENEATH THE SURFACE, selected for the Series Mania Writers Campus in Lille, March 2025.
Asimina is an alumna of Sarajevo Talents 2015 and Berlinale Talents 2015, and a member of the Hellenic Film Academy and the European Film Academy.
